The Essex County District Attorney’s Office, in conjunction with the Peabody Police Department, and other local area police departments (Ipswich, Georgetown, Gloucester, Marblehead, Beverly, Danvers, Salem, Lynnfield, Lynn, Saugus and Swampscott) will partner to host the Essex County Summer Day Program. The camp will take place at the Higgins Middle School, 85 Perkins St., Peabody, MA.
For over three decades, this program has afforded students entering the fifth grade with the opportunity to engage in anti-drug and violence programming, anti-bullying and gang prevention. Recently we have added anti-hate and bias, mental health and overall well being to the program. In addition to the structured curriculum, attendees also take field trips and participate in group activities allowing the students, peer leaders and police officers the opportunity to forge relationships that last well beyond the two-week camp.
In years past, we have had success in servicing over 400 youths in the participating communities. Our goal for 2025 is to provide this experience once again to at least 400 youth in Essex County. Combining the efforts of local municipalities, along with the support of generous organizations has helped us reach thousands of children who without these generous donations would not be afforded the experience of going to camp. Each year we look to continue to expand upon the success of the prior year and enhance the overall program.
